Late post: saturday (duty in OR)
- it was so unsual to have soooooo many operations in one day! everyone (staff nurses, nursing aides, students, doctors, everyone!) was so busy, running around, preparing patient after patient. sooo, we had 2 ORIFs, 3 CS, 1 NSD, 1 D&C and a closing of an appendectomy... there were 4 cord care cases since 1 CS patient had twins! :)
- thing was, i was kinda sick that day. so my Clinical instructor didn't order me around. she assigned me in the recovery room, which sucked, since i really want to do a cord care case. :( but of course, i had to think of the babies' welfare.. see, babies are high risk for any disease... i had an asthma attack 2 days prior the the busy day, and still i was recovering from it. i got pretty bored in RR... so i asked my clinical instructor to assign me to a minor case (appendectomy). still, it was not a biggy. hrmph... i didn't even feel tired.
- by the way, i monitored the VS of a patient who just undergone a shoulder surgery... it wass my job to wake him up from time to time. there were 3 IV lines attached to him: D5 water with tramdol (f0r pain), 10 gtts/min, D5 LR @KVO and another yellow IV med (forgot what it was, antibiotics i guess). i saw the yellow IV med empty and the tramadol leaking. so, i fixed it. while i was removing the tramadol to change the line, the patient woke up and and cried so loudly as he felt the gnawing pain of the post-surgery. gosh, i got a little rattled with that! i thought it was the removal of the tramdol on his Y-tube, but my CI doubted it since, it was not removed long enough. however, i think it was still a factor. eventually, the nurse in charge contacted the doctor and was ordered to give another dose of tramadol with an IV push.... the patient went back to his peaceful slumber... whew!
Sunday- Lunch at tita Tess'
-ok.. so i also missed lunch at tita tess'. had to stay home for a faster recovery. i didn't feel sick anymore though. i just felt i needed more rest. hrmmph. i miss my nephew. didn't see him.
